California Mission Trip 2024 - Day 6

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words.

It’s very clear that everyone is tired. It showed in different ways. We took longer breaks and the 100+ degree temperatures seemed to slow us down a bit. The ride home from the worksite was much quieter than prior days. After dinner, the youth acted out segments from various movies, including Rapunzel, Saturday Night Fever, and Titanic. And only one photo was taken at the jobsite today.

It may be the only photo, but it sums things up pretty well…

As you can see in the background, we continue to install sheetrock. The loft is pretty much completed, and we’ve started taping over the seams and nails. Unfortunately, we can’t fully complete the hanging of the sheetrock until the building inspector stops by to inspect certain of the pipes in the walls.

Since we don’t have any more photos to share, we’ll indulge with the details of the day.

- Breakfast was at 7 am and consisted of pancakes and sausage. This group is not big pancake eaters, even with the pure maple sugar.

- The Tiny Pine Foundation utility truck broke down so the team in the pick-up truck went to the Tiny Pine headquarters to pick up insulation, sheetrock, and other supplies. While they did that, the team in the Ford Transit passenger van stopped at the store to buy some wasp and hornet spray. Pat told us that she was only bitten 4 times the last time knocked down a bee’s nest at her house. So, we used the spray to get rid of the yellow-jacket nest.

- They were short of staff at the Tiny Pines headquarter so Laura stayed there today to answer phones, greet visitors and survivors of the recent wildfires.

- We made sandwiches after breakfast for our lunch today.

- For dinner we had Penne with beef and/pr ground chicken meatballs, green salad, and garlic bread. For dessert, we had Ghirardelli’s chocolate brownies.

More tomorrow!
