Mike led us in prayer for our work today. It was uplifting and encouraging. He also reminded us that we needed to be doubly careful as when we are tired, we (as humans) tend to make mistakes… leading to accidents. We’ll keep vigilance over our safety.
We quickly stopped at Home Depot to pick up insulation supports so installers could avoid stapling while installing it! This was new to me. Think of it as a long wire a bit bigger than the width that bends and has beveled end that press into the wood to hold the insulation in place.
We returned to Ray and Teanea’s (sorry - spelled it wrong yesterday) house to do some more outside painting and LOTS of mudding today! In fact, most of us were mudding today! In all, we used almost 15 gallons of compound to fill in screw holes and to skim coat (lightly coat) the newly hung drywall. I also discovered that I prefer mesh tape better than paper tape. Much easier to apply and, bonus, no bubbles! Our new insulation installers were Debby and Julian! After installing some (again, in the house crawl space), they discovered we needed more. Mike, Debby and Jenna went on a Home Depot run to get MORE insulation! After returning, Debby suited up again and went under the house with Julian. Mike got the job of hauling pieces to the opening so it could be lowered and installed! By the end of this second day at this location,we all felt like we accomplished a lot! Ray and Teanea were so appreciative of our efforts. What a privilege to help them out.
After stopping for Icees and a gas fill up, we toured! First stop was the Chinese Temple. Unfortunately, it was only open at 10am on Fridays and Saturdays. I would have enjoyed a peek and a tour! We then headed to Oroville Dam. Mike was persuaded to let the youth out after he crossed onto the bridge. All youth (including Kirsten) ran a bit over a mile. Where are they getting all this energy?? As I’m not a runner, I cheered all of them on from the car. The view was spectacular! Such a peaceful place.
For dinner, Mike and Jay grilled - one made steak while the other made pork tenderloin. The roasted potatoes made another visit to the table! Rounding out the meal was a healthy salad bar!
Tomorrow is our last day and we are going back to Concow and Feather Falls. Lunches are being made tonight instead of the morning as we just won’t have time. We’re looking forward to a strong finish!
PS No accidents today! Woot! Woot!
