DAY 1

5am CT Time and a 15 Passenger Van

Don´t those kids look enthusiastic and ready for action!

The photo was taken at 5am Connecticut time in front of the San Francisco International Airport! The adults were still in the baggage claim area waiting for the last few bags to be delivered.

We left Bradley International Airport on 2 different flights....one to Detroit and one to Atlanta. Both left on time and arrived early. The Atlanta team had a nice dinner at TGI Friday. The Detroit folks had a much shorter connection and had dinner on the plane.

The flight from Atlanta to San Francisco departed over an hour late and arrived at 1:30am local time. While they were still in the air, the earlier arrivals carried 6 checked bags to the car rental terminal where they picked up a 15-passenger van. The only hitch was that the back seat of the van doesn't fold down, and getting all our luggage in will be a challenge. They also went to the hotel to check-in to the rooms for the night. Unfortunately, the hotel chain reservation system crashed earlier in the day. Our pre-assigned rooms were no longer available. Due to the number of rooms we had reserved, it took nearly an hour to complete the registration process. But that worked out well because as soon as that was done, we returned to the airport to pick up the rest of the group.

Everyone was surprisingly energetic and happy to be in San Francisco. We got to the hotel around 2:30am. Here's a photo of everyone in the hotel lobby.

We look like a bunch of college students who just pulled an all-nighter (it was 5:30am in Connecticut!).

Our plan is to have breakfast in the morning and then head north to continue our adventures!
