Today was our first build day and everyone was excited to start. Rise and shine with French toast and a beautiful sunny day. We headed off to Oroville to Tiny Pine to meet up with Alyssa, the founder who we have worked with for over 5 years.
It´s like seeing an old friend for most of us and introducing Chaz and Sierra our newbies! We gathered some tools from the warehouse and headed to a home in Oroville to help finish a remodel that they are doing for fund raising. There were many projects to be done and we divided up in groups. A few of the larger projects were installing a chain link fence which include Alex, Chaz, Julian, Cam, and Aiden, however Alex said that Chaz was carrying the team! They dug three holes in very hard sunbaked ground and filled them with cement for the fence post the fence will go up tomorrow.
Jay installed the plumbing for the kitchen sink, installed trim on a door to the garage and started building an island around the stove with help from Jenna, who was working with only one arm as she had broken her other one a few days before we headed out. Chaz assembled a vanity cabinet which will hold two sinks, completed the plumbing and prepped for sink installation tomorrow. Debby, Laura, Sierra and Lia painted, painted and painted! Lots of touch up along ceilings and painted trim in many rooms. Lia and Leggy (Legacy, Alyssa’s daughter) installed handles for drawers and cabinets in the kitchen and help Jay with tools he needed. Cam also installed outlet covers and painted the garage floor. Debby and Laura also clean and clean and clean. The had wood floors had been sanded and there saw dust that needed to be vacuumed up and cabinets wiped down.
During the day Mike, our fearless leader, was the gofer for the day, he made 6 trips to ace hardware, 3 to Home Depot and 1 to Tiny Pine! We would not be able to accomplish what we did to day with out the team work of all and of course the many trips Mike took for supplies! We worked until dinner time, headed home for a late supper and headed to bed for another day tomorrow.
